June Penhey passes away
Kua hinga te tōtara i Te Waonui-a-Tāne.
The tōtara tree has fallen in Tāne’s great forest.
With sorrow and with heartfelt gratitude, we mourn the passing of our beloved June.
June was acknowledged for her service to our community last year, when she was granted the Freedom of Pukerua Bay and the previous year, with her well-deserved receipt of a Porirua Civic Award. But these are only tokens. June’s life embodied the spirit of service, care, and faith. Together with husband Mike, she was a “true villager”. She touched our lives in her care for the environment and in the personal care she gave so many people. She demonstrated quiet courage in facing personal tragedy and unwavering fortitude in enduring what has been an extended period of illness.
June will be deeply missed and always remembered. We extend our deepest sympathy to Mike and to all the family.

Annual General Meeting for Ahu Charitable Trust / Pukerua Bay Hub
SH1/Pukerua Beach Road barrier repair Wednesday night
Capital Journeys are repairing the barrier after it was damaged a couple of weeks ago and the work is scheduled for Wednesday night 10 November on State Highway 1 at the Pukerua Beach Road intersection.
There will be stop/go traffic control in place from 7pm to 5.30am. These works should not take all night and the noisiest work will be completed first. Working at night means there are fewer vehicles so the job can be completed quickly, efficiently and safely without causing major traffic delays.
Thank you for your patience while Capital Journeys make these road safety improvements in our community.
Pukerua Bay Heritage Talks
Pukerua Bay has a significant Māori history. Miria Pomare will speak about the people, places and events important to Māori in this place. Ashley Blair will talk about the dramatic events of the late 1880s when the railway was put through Pukerua Bay. There will also be a demonstration of the new augmented reality app “Discover Porirua” which features most of Pukerua Bay’s Heritage sites.
