They are ready to go to get another 1800 wetland plants into the ground this season\, having raised the money and ordered the plants from local nurseries. Stage two of the Taupo Swamp Wetland Restoration starts this Saturday\, June 6.\n\n \n\nWork this weekend will be continuing to weed last year’s planting (some trees are now over 2 metres tall) and preparing the ground for the upcoming planting season. Do not just show up on the day\, please read the details below around Level 2 restrictions.\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday 17 May 2020 at 9am – 11 am\nSouth end of Escarpment access track (not the Escarpment Track itself)\, Paekākāriki\n\n\n\n\n\nWalk along the Southern end of the access track to the Paekākāriki Escarpment Track to the meeting spot (not the actual Escarpment Track!) The exact area is shown in the map:\n\n\n\n\nMeeting place\, on the Escarpment Access Track\, Paekākāriki (map)\n\n\n\n\nDuring Alert Level 2 things will have to work differently. There is a limit of 10 people\, so do not just show up\, please RSVP to Andy McKay by text or email first. DESCRIPTION:Beach Cleanup at Pukerua Bay: come and help clean up our amazing stretch of coastline! \nThis event is organised by Kathmandu and Sustainable Coastlines\, and they would like you to sign up as a volunteer here if you wish to participate. \nWhat to bring: \n\nSturdy\, closed-toe shoes that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy. This is critical for health & safety: those not wearing closed-toe shoes will not be able to participate.\nWarm and waterproof clothes. At least one warm top layer and a rain jacket.\nSun hat and sunscreen.\nReusable water bottle (filled up and ready to go)\nYour old or unused mobile phone to recycle. As a charity partner of the RE:MOBILE phone recycling scheme\, donating your old mobile helps us raise critical funds for freshwater restoration.\nA camera (optional). We would love to see your event photos! If you use Instagram\, use the tags #loveyourwater\, @kathmandugear and @sustainablecoastlines to let the world know.

SUMMARY:Growth Strategy and draft District Plan workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join our community workshops to discuss our city’s Growth Strategy and draft District Plan. By sharing your knowledge and views on our city’s future\, we can ensure that we are making the right decision for our city together. \nPorirua is growing and changing and we want to work with the community to help shape this change. To do this the Porirua City Council is reviewing its District Plan as well as developing a Growth Strategy. The Growth Strategy will provide the high level direction around ‘why’ and ‘where’ we will grow and change\, whereas the District Plan review will create rules around ‘how’ we change and ‘what’ this will look like\, while also directing how we protect our environment. \nThe workshops will be highly interactive and visual\, and will help us develop the formal Growth Strategy document which will be released in November 2018. It will also provide an opportunity to understand the major changes to the draft District Plan from our current operative District Plan\, and provide us with feedback. \nFor more information\, see the council’s community workshops page.

SUMMARY:Coastal Hazards Community Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Porirua City has coastal areas at risk from erosion and flooding over the next 100 years. Porirua City Council want to work collaboratively with residents living in coastal communities\, to build a more resilient city as part of the District Plan review. \nA community workshop was held in August this year to hear about residents’ experiences of coastal hazards in Pukerua Bay. Council would like to meet again to go into further detail about these experiences and knowledge as well as begin a discussion around how to manage these hazards in the future.
