Pukerua Bay Residents' Association
Tuesday, 13 October 2009, 7.30 pm
Present:
Pukerua Bay Residents' Association committee members: Dagmar Pesendorfer, June Penhey, Kate Dreaver, Graham McLaughlin, Iain MacLean
PCC: Ian Barlow
Community: Karen Apperley
Apologies: Nick Leggett, Pat Hanley, Robyn Moore
Minutes: Adopted: Graham, Seconded: Kate.
Matters Arising
Graffiti panels at skate park: The committee decided to invite Trevor Mason from PCC to discuss these at its next meeting. Committee members have concerns that the boards could attract unwanted graffiti at the park, which would defeat the purpose of installing them.
Finance
With the addition of $700 from the Residents' Association's share of the prize money from the award PCC got for its Village Planning initiative, the Residents' Association's bank balance stands at $4,214.47.
The committee decided to give a $20 petrol voucher each to Dagmar and Karen to reimburse them for the cost of ingredients for the baking they did for the community meeting on the NAP and Muri Station.
Moved: Graham, Seconded: June.
Correspondence
Papers from PCC on District Plan and City Services committee, and update on village plans.
Public Meeting on transport issues (29 Sep 2009)
Follow-up from meeting: June suggested that the Residents' Association writes to GWRC to request that there is an off-peak bus service from Pukerua Bay station to Plimmerton while the station is being rebuilt. Agreed that one return service would be a reasonable request, perhaps going to Plimmerton to meet a mid-morning service to Wellington, returning around 2-3pm.
Ian Barlow will investigate the possibility of the council building steps or a ramp from the cycle path to the road of the highway to give access to the traffic island opposite the end of Weku Road to create safe crossing spot to Muri Station.
Ian also reported he is investigating a 3m wide cycle/footpath that will be parallel to the highway north of Pukerua Beach Road.
PCC will do minor road safety works in Pukerua Bay, including speed humps on either side of the Kindergarten in Wairaka Road. The work has been carried over from last financial year.
Village Planning
No action to report this month as everyone was busy organising the public meeting.
Civil Defence
June reported that there had been no warnings or alerts received by Civil Defence contacts in Pukerua Bay from PCC following the possibility of a tsunami on 30 Sep.
The new water storage tank has been installed at the school.
June will talk to Trevor Farmer from PCC about communication arrangements as Pukerua Bay does not have a Civil Defence coordinator now that Jack Fry has moved away.
Other Business
Tony Jackman is seeking funding for display cabinets at the Secret Valley.
PCC will be redoing the footpath in the Secret Valley in the 2009/2010 financial year.
Suggestion of a community working bee, weeding around the recently planted plants on the coastal slope by the car park at the beach.
Memorial seat: Request from the family of a man who grew up on Pukerua Bay. Committee discussed plans for seating in the newly landscaped area. Ian Barlow to discuss with Linda Kerkmeester. Also discussed alternatives to memorial seats, such as planting to memorialise people. (Needs further discussion.)
Some street lights do not appear to be working near dairy. Ian Barlow to investigate.
